The Gefen 4x2 HDMI Switcher is a 283mm wide (11.125") metallic unit equipped with four HDMI
inputs and two HDMI outputs. Four inputs accommodate the simultaneous connection of up to four high definition video sources,
such as satellite digiboxes and HDMI equipped DVD players such as the Marantz DV7600 or the
Marantz DV9600.
Two outputs send the high definition audio/video signals (at resolutions up to 1080p to two high definition displays or one display
and one audio receiver. Digital audio and high definition video for each source is accessed immediately when the unit “switches” to it.
You control the switching by using the IR remote that comes with the unit.
A digital audio output port is available if you need to direct the audio to an AV receiver
for home cinema situations
where your AV receiver does not have an HDMI input. This allows you to connect the HDMI directly to the screen and the audio to the
surround sound amplifier.
This Gefen 4x2 HDMI Switcher completely eliminates the need to disconnect then reconnect multiple HDMI sources, saving time
by providing a fundamental tool that brings it all together behind the scenes. When all six devices (the displays plus the four
sources) are connected to the 4x2 HDMI Switcher and powered on, you simply select which source you want to view on the
display using the IR remote that comes with it, or any universal remote.
NB: Both displays, eg plasma and projector, will receive the same output. This is NOT a matrix switcher: it does not
allow each display to select a different source. If you require this functionality, consider the
Gefen 4 x 4 matrix switcher
(with or without DVI-HDMI adaptors).
The Gefen 4x2 HDMI Switcher also has a separate optical digital audio output. This unit can be controlled using RS232.
Fully HDCP Compliant
HDCP (high definition content protection) is a standard that is encoded into the video signal to prevent it from being
pirated. If a source device is HDCP coded and is connected to a HDTV display or projector without the proper HDCP decoding
mechanism, the picture is relegated to “snow” or in some cases, very low (480P) resolutions of the images. In order to see HDTV
with HDCP compliance, both the source and display devices must be equipped with HDMI or DVI connections that can enable HDCP decoding,
such as the 4x2 HDMI Switcher.
How it Works
Simply connect your HDTV plasma or projector to the Switcher’s outputs. Then, using the four high quality HDMI cables
that come with the 4x2
HDMI Switcher, plug each one into the four source devices, then connect them to the Switcher’s HDMI inputs. Once the source
devices and the HDTV are powered on and connected, you simply switch between source devices using the RMT-4IR remote control or
your own universal remote.
