The Gefen Super Booster Plus for HDMI 1.3 is an attractive alternative to the use of HDMI baluns for sending HDMI signals over intermediate distances. It enables you
to use your standard, “off the shelf” HDMI cable to transmit superb HDTV visuals plus multichannel digital audio in a single cable way beyond the limited HDMI
specification of normal cables.
The Super Booster Plus supports displays up to 1080p and HDMI 1.3 features such as deep colour and lossless audio formats.
The Super Booster Plus model implements DDC reclocking which makes HDCP handshaking and EDID transmission more reliable over long distances of copper cable.
Using the tiny Gefen HDMI Super Booster Plus you can send HDMI digital audio
and video up to 60 metres. The HDMI Super Booster works by correcting any digital
degradation that occurs when HDMI is used to send AV signals beyond the specified distance.
The importance of a powered HDMI booster
This is a powered device and does not take power from the 5V feed on the HDMI cable. This means that it will not detract from the ability of your
HDMI source, eg Blu-ray player, to trigger and communicate with your HDTV display. (HDMI sources send a 5 Volt feed to the display upon start up. The display reacts to this
through a function known as 'hot plug detect'. This then triggers the HDMI source to send out a request for EDID information covering display
resolution, etc. Only when this information has been received by the HDMI source will it set up communication with the display and then send out
the HDCP checking signal. If the display confirms HDCP compliance then the video picture is sent. If the display does not receive a minimum of 4.7V on the HDMI
cable the process will not begin and no video will be fed to the display)
How it works
This 'plug and play' installation takes mere seconds. You simply connect the HDMI cable on one side of the HDMI Super Booster and the display’s cable on the
other side. The Gefen HDMI Super Booster sits between the end of your HDMI cable and your display. Because
it replicates digital video signals, you also have the option of connecting another HDMI cable
to the Super Booster, daisy chaining Boosters and cables for greater distances.
NB: The last Gefen Super Booster Plus for HDMI 1.3 in the chain should be no more than 5 metres from the display device.
CyberSelect testing
We have tested this device at a distance of 51 metres @1080p with no 'sparkles', ie the usual first sign of loss of quality on an HDMI digital signal.
At 720p resolution we achieved 61 metres.
