The Russound R1250MC (sister product to the Russound R850MC) is an 12-channel power amplifier ideal for use as the main amplifier in a single source multi-room or multi-speaker audio system,
such as a restaurant, or as a higher power amplifier in a
six stereo zone system. The twelve channels are arranged in pairs to provide amplification for the six stereo zones.
The Russound R1250MC allows a local source (eg PC or TV in the bedroom) to automatically override the speakers in that particular zone of a distributed multiroom audio system.
This can be accomplished with its auto-sensing line input or with its trigger input for versatility in many different applications.
The Russound R1250MC is rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms on a single zone. This means that individual stereo zones can have up to 50 watts
per channel. If all zones are playing simultaneously the maximum total load is
420 watts, ie 35 watts per channel, which is more than enough for most home situations. The R1250 can operate 2 pairs of speakers per zone giving you
80 watts per channel into 4 ohms. In bridged mono mode the R1250MC is rated at 140 watts of power into a single 8-ohm load.
All this power is supplied by two high-output toroidal transformers. Each output channel incorporates robust protection circuitry for safety and reliability
under extreme circumstances.
This power amplifier provides a constant volume gain, and should be used in conjunction
with an audio source from a pre-amp. For example this could be the Russound CAA66, or CAS44 multiroom amplifier
with the pre-amp switch set to variable pre-amp out. Alternatively, if you have your music stored on your computer, on a Media Center PC, on a standalone
Imerge SoundServer, or on an iPod, use the R1250MC to amplify it to speaker level. Volume control would be achieved using the
built-in volume control of the computer, SoundServer or iPod.
The Russound R1250 also works well with audio streaming devices such as the Sonos ZP80,
which has built-in line level volume controls. Using six ZP80 units feeding into the R1250 gives you a centralised 6 zone multiroom solution accessing
a central music store, Internet radio and up to 6 connected 'local' inputs such as Sky or a DVD player, albeit the local sources would not be
controlled through the Sonos Controller.
When used with an iPod a good combination is to use an iPod docking station. The Marantz IS201
allows you to control the iPod variable volume with an IR remote control.
If your audio source is at a fixed level, eg Sonance iPort, you will need to
use an in-line volume control such as the QED WM21.
One benefit of a high quality specialist power amp like the R1250MC is the low level of impedance that it can handle. This means that you can connect multiple pairs of speakers to it, with or without a
multi-way speaker switch or wall mounted volume controls for a simple multiroom system. The R1250MC handles down to 4 Ohms impedance meaning
that you can connect to 2 pairs of speakers per stereo zone without a speaker switch, ie 12 pairs of speakers in total, or up to 5 pairs per zone
with an impedance matching switch such as the 5 way QED Transmatch!
The Russound R1250MC incorporates features "auto-on" signal sensing to automatically turn the amplifier on when signal is present
from an audio source.
