The Onkyo TX-NR609 Network Receiver supports the new 3D technology and although the TX-NR609 is positioned as an “entry-level” receiver, you get cutting edge technologies and new
features far beyond what you’d expect from a receiver at this price range.
The Onkyo TX-NR609 Network Receiver replaces the previously highly rated TX-SR608 Surround Receiver. In this new model you now have networking capabilities extended to include
not just handling content from your iPhone/iPod and computer, but also from free and subscription based Internet music services including Spotify, Napster and last.fm.
The Onkyo TX-NR609 has six HDMI v1.4a inputs. HDMI 1.4a brings compatibility with the new 3D video format, as well as an ARC (Audio Return Channel) from your TV back to the receiver,

In recognition of the Onkyo TX-NR609’s outstanding quality and performance, it has received the THX® Select2 Plus Certification, a first for an Onkyo ‘600 series’ receiver.
Made from high quality aluminum, the Onkyo TX-NR609 retains the black fascia similar to previous Onkyo models. The layout is simple and functional. The receiver is flanked
by a standby button on the left and a large volume control on the right. The center digital fluorescent readout is clear yet subtle so that it does not affect movie
viewing in a darkened room. Below the display is a row of mode selection and source select buttons. These buttons have a nice tactile feel. A headphone jack, mic input,
aux input and an HDMI input complete the front face layout
All video sources, regardless of resolution, are upscaled to 1080p and can be upscaled to the ultra-high resolution 4K x 2K video upscaling via Marvell Qdeo™ Cinema processor.
Audio processing incorporates 24bit/192kHz Burr-Brown DACs,
lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter-cleaning
technology work to ensure precise and faithful audio reproduction.
The High-quality Burr-Brown DACs work to optimise analogue audio performance on the TX-NR609. These DACs perform advanced 24-bit signal processing and support sampling
rates of up to 192kHz. They also work to reduce jitter so you get better sound for movies as well as for music playback.
Streaming and networking capabilities
If you have an iPod or other MP3 player, you can connect it to the Onkyo TX-NR609’s front panel for quick and convenient audio playback. Your player’s compressed
digital music files can then receive a quality boost from the receiver’s Music Optimizer technology.
Napster and Spotify are subscription digital music services with libraries of over 10 and 8 million tracks respectively. Search for any artist,
album or track.
Last.fm is a global music service that lets you play, share and discover
new music without subscription. You can also create personal radio stations based on your musical tastes. Just enter the name of your
favorite artist or genre and Last.fm will play radio customised just for you. The more you listen, the more Last.fm learns what you like so it can
continually recommend new tracks and stations.
Expanded surround sound
Audyssey DSX lets you incorporate “front wide” speakers in place of the usual surround back speakers, allowing you to expand the width of the soundstage. These
channels help to produce a more realistic soundstage and a more immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can reconfigure the TX-NR609’s surround
back channels to deliver “front height” channels. These channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games.
Dolby Pro Logic IIz provides a similar front-height speaker option that also works to create a more enveloping home cinema experience.
Digital connectivity
The Onkyo TX-NR609 Network Receiver includes a 6 in 1 out HDMI 1.4a digital video switcher. This ensures that the highest video quality
is activated when required and allows you to switch between six HDMI digital sources,
directly into your display or a projector.
Examples of suitable video sources with HDMI outputs include SkyHD and all of the Marantz Blu-ray players.
The Marantz SR6004 comes with the RC003SR remote control. This has an LCD display read out for complete and user friendly control feedback. It also has programmable keys for
entire system control by assigning IR commands from any device, into one learning remote, and macro function keys that ensure multiple IR commands activated with
one key for maximum ease of use.
