The new Marantz Melody Media MCR603 includes a CD player, USB memory stick player, amplifier and a DAB radio as well as an FM radio in a small package designed for multiroom use, and with the build quality that we have come to associate with Marantz.

But it doesn’t stop there: you can also connect the Melody Media to the Internet or your PC via the Ethernet input on the back. The DLNA 1.5 certified Melody Media plays thousands of free-of-charge Internet radio stations from all over the world via vTuner, or why not enjoy the online music service Napster. You can also access your own music library on your PC or NAS drive. This means that with a Marantz MCR603 you effectively have a Sonos ZonePlayer but with the added benefit of a CD player and an FM radio.

The Melody Media MCR603 outputs 60 watts per 2 stereo channels at 6 Ohms or 30 watts per 4 channels, which means that it can be used in multiroom situations when combined with a speaker switch such as the QED SS20 two way or the SS30 three way switches, that protect the amplifier load from dropping below 4 Ohms.

The Marantz Melody Media MCR603 has been specifically designed for multiroom situations and you can pre-set the volume difference between the two rooms, to ensure comfortable listening.

If you do not want to use in-ceiling speakers then consider the Canton Plus X2 mini speakers.

The CD player gives high quality playback of CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA encoded discs, or files held on USB, including (where appropriate) CD-Text information such as artist name, and track titles. The radio has automatic tuning for easy channel set-up, RDS function for station name and also has 99 pre-sets.

The rigid chassis, metal front panel and total weight of 4.3Kg provide a rock-solid base for high quality performance, and ensures that the Marantz Melody Media MCR603 is no lightweight in music performance.

A high quality headphone output and supplied remote control complements the versatility of the Marantz MCR603.

Streaming music

You can enjoy streaming audio content from online music services like Napster as well as from your own shared media files. Access thousands of Internet radio stations from all over the world. This means that with a Marantz MCR603 you effectively have a built-in Sonos ZonePlayer.

The Airplay function allows you to stream music directly from your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, so if you have Spotify, then you can stream this through your AV receiver using the iPhone as a controller and with the benefit of the quality DAC and the power in the Marantz MCR603.

Control by iPhone/iPod Touch

You can use the Marantz 'Wizz App' on your iPhone or iPod to directly control the Marantz MCR-603 (download free from the iTunes App store). This only applies to the networked AV receivers such as the SR7005, SR6006, SR5006, NR1602, MCR603 and the NA7004 Network Audio Player. If you have Marantz equipment with the 'D-Bus' remote control (orange co-ax connector on rear) connected to the AV receiver, eg Marantz Blu-ray players, CD players, etc then these will also be controlled via the network AV receiver.

Wizz App comes preloaded with key functionality such as Main/2nd/3rd Zone Power On/Off, Volume Up/Down, Mute On/Off, Input selection, Tuner control, Menu control by cursor and Disc player basic control. Also available from Wizz App are Playback controls such as File selection, Play, Pause, Stop, etc of music/photo contents stored on a PCs or NAS drives that are connected to your home network.
