Passing IR around your house
is a critical part of distributed entertainment, but it can be quite problematic
because it is also emitted by plasma screens and sunlight. Careful location and correct
choice of quality components can make a major difference to the success of your system.
The Labgear HandyLink system works over
the existing co-ax cable connecting the TVs and consists of a driver set (MRX120)
which sits beside the TV/Digibox/VCR/etc and re-transmits the
IR signals to the equipment, and a set top mouse shaped IR receiver. It requires
non-isolated outlets and a suitable distribution amplifier, and
Home Networking.
The starter kit includes the driver/receiver unit (with plug top power supply unit),
which sits beside the source equipment, 2 IR emitters and the set top receiver that sits
near the remote TV.
Extra set top receivers (MRX110)
are available for additional rooms.
To control more than 2 equipment sources, extra IR emitters may be fitted by adding
Y adaptors, or by using twin IR blink emitters. NB: You can only have one Labgear HandyLink
driver unit on the same TV distribution network. It is not possible to use HandyLink to
control equipment connected to the same network in two different locations.
