The Gefen 4x1 DVI Switcher offers unparalleled flexibility in the setup of high definition cinema
and electronics systems. A plug and play solution, the 4x1 DVI Switcher connects four HDTV source devices with DVI-D outputs, eg
Marantz DV8500 (HDMI), or Neuston Virtuoso video streamer, even DVI-based computer
systems, and links them to one high definition screen. You simply select what source will be viewed on the screen using the
Switcher or its IR remote control. It can also be controlled using any universal programmable remote device, offering an
alternative to multiple remote control confusion.
The 4x1 DVI Switcher
requires no additional power supply to operate. However, it is equipped with a 5-volt DC input in the event that the unit requires
additional power, as in the case of a DVI source not outputting the proper voltage.
High Definition Television Defined
HDTV (high definition television) is a rapidly emerging video standard that transmits large amounts of visual data
(resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and 1080P) using DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, resulting is crisp, highly defined
visuals that resemble movies shot on 35mm film. DVI is the current transmitter of choice for HDTV because it is a purely
digital interface that retains the integrity of the video signal through any transmission. With DVI, there is no digital-to-analog
or analog-to-digital conversion process that needs to take place before, during or after transmission.
Fully HDCP Compliant
HDCP (high definition content protection) is a standard that is encoded into the video signal to prevent it from being
pirated. If a source device is HDCP coded and is connected to a HDTV display or projector without the proper HDCP decoding
mechanism, the picture is relegated to “snow” or in some cases, very low (480P) resolutions of the images. In order to see HDTV
with HDCP compliance, both the source and display devices must be equipped with HDMI or DVI connections that can enable HDCP decoding,
such as the 4x1 DVI Switcher.
How it Works
Simply connect your HDTV source to the Switcher’s DVI output. Then, using the four high quality DVI cables that come with the 4x1
DVI Switcher, plug each one into the four source devices, then connect them to the Switcher’s DVI inputs. Once the source
devices and the DVI are powered on and connected, you simply switch between source devices using the RMT-4IR remote control or
your own universal remote.
The 4x1 DVI Switcher is HDCP pass-through.
