These high visual impact 2 metres high, Technosound speakers are produced in Germany by the specialist glass technology company,
Glas-Platz. The planar 'Glass Sound' source in TechnoSound produces
a much more regular sound distribution than conventional speakers,
without directional reflections. It is also a more mellow sound than many conventional
drivers. This means that these speakers are ideal in rooms with hard surfaces which would normally result in the music
echoing around the room from conventional speakers.
How does it work?
At the heart of the Technosound speakerr is its acoustic 'engine', a vibrational excitation driver hidden behind a decorative CD mounted in
the glass. The excitation driver sets up tiny but powerful
vibrations, (you can feel them, but you cannot see them) in the glass. These are then transferred via the surface of the glass, which in turn
excite other air molecules until the sound reaches our ears.
Operating in the same way as natural musical instruments such as the acoustic guitar, violin or piano, these vibrations recreate sounds far more evenly and
less directional than a conventional cone based speaker. This creates a very wide area in which the surround sound or stereo sound field is heard properly,
even when seated right against the active wall.
The signal to the wire-hung flat glass speakers is transferred
to the loudspeaker panel by the stainless steel supporting cables.
The ex-demo Technosound package we have available includes two free-standing Technosound speakers, a Mission corner sub-woofer, a frequency dividing unit (to
ensure protection of the glss speakers from damaging bass notes, which are directed to the sub) some speaker cables and the user guide.
We also will include a single wall hanging Technosound speaker, see photo on right, which could be used as a centre channel in a 5.1 surround
sound system, or you could purchase another from Glaz-Platz to make an extra stereo pair.
