This new Russound CAA66 six-zone/six-source controller amplifier is straightforward to install and
includes features not typically
found in competitive models at this price. The CAA66 can be daisy-chained, easily expanding up to 36 zones for any size home or
budget. It includes extensive infrared command codes and learning capabilities, making remote and keypad control of the
system as simple as pressing a button.
For larger spaces where extra volume is required, zones 1 and 2 can be output at line level (fixed or variable) to say a power amplifier, such as the
Sonamp from Sonance giving 100W at 4 Ohms through two pairs of in-ceiling speakers.
Volume control in this scenario would still be achieved from the keypad in the usual way, by using the variable line out setting on the CAA66.
Its dedicated CAA-RC remote control is packed with a comprehensive list of IR device codes and learning capability for
simple component control. The new Russound CAA66 offers exceptional value, straightforward operation and adjustable
playback for multiroom audio made easy.
Keypad Options
Two elegantly designed keypad options are available for one-touch control of home audio components. The KP6 includes 20 labels
for personalizing your 6 sources sources, whilst the KPL offers a LCD panel making multiroom audio control
simple and enjoyable. The five-character LCD display shows source name and volume level. You can control the bass, treble,
balance, loudness and volume from any KP6 or KPL keypad in the home. On the KPL display you can see the audio settings
as they are adjusted for ease of use.
For ease of installation, the controller can be rack mounted (with the provided rack ears).
We offer two CAA66 kits with either the KP6 keypads or the KPL keypads. Both kits come complete with a
Russound LRC learning remote control, pre-programmed with the main commands for the controller.
NB: The CAA66 controller has routeable IR, so you can have two identical sources and maintain IR control of
each independently..
This unit is rack mountable and comes with rack ears included in the kit. It occupies 1U when in the rack.
Cabling is by Category 5e cable from the controller to each keypad, and
speaker cable from the controller to each pair of speakers.
Keypads are easy to fit since they have 'punch down' connections for
Category 5 cable. (An IDC punch down is provided as part of the kit)
Keypads require US style backboxes.
When combining this system with a hard disc based music server system requiring a visual display, eg Imerge SoundServer
or the Russound Smart Media Server, consider using a wall mounted TFT LCD monitor mounted alongside the keypad as shown below. Note that
the CAA66 can link directly to other Russound RNET devices such as the Smart Media Server
or the ST2 Twin Tuner for control but does not support feedback.
For feedback you require the Russound CAV or CAM systems.
Optional extra controls
For extra control, the optional KPSC keypad is available. The KPSC keypad is programmable, allowing up to 12 stored functions for each of 4 - 6 pieces
of source equipment, including specific numeric selections of the source equipment, ideal for multi-disc players, satellite receivers, etc.
The KPSC keypad connects to the main control KP6 or KPL keypads via a 12-pin connector located on the side of the keypad.
No extra wiring is needed.
Infrared commands can be stored directly into the KPSC keypad using a simple programming procedure and the source equipment’s
remote. Stored source IR commands are executed
by simply pressing the keypad buttons to which the infrared commands were placed.
The KPSC keypad, when mounted alongside the standard KP6 or KPL keypad, requires a twin gang US style back box or plasterboard
"p-ring", together with a twin gang faceplate,
see photo.
Installation Tips
Buy the US style back boxes early before the
walls are plastered. Cut out size for the back box - 56mm wide x 95mm tall x 78mm deep
8 Ohm speakers are recommended but you can have 4 Ohm speakers in up to two rooms if required.
You can have two pairs of 8 Ohm speakers operating in parallel a single zone if you wish. Ideally these would be controlled using a
two way parallel speaker switch, however they can be both connected directly to the CAA66 if required.
NB: The speaker connectors can only take a maximum speaker cable with a cross-sectional area of 2.5 sq mm. If you wish to put two cables into one connector
you may need to use butt connectors. Please ask if in doubt.
