The Berker Radio Control System is a complete automation system for your home, not only
including lighting control but also switching electrical appliances, blinds, awnings, heating and
even multi-room audio, from the same remote control. But the best part is that in almost every
situation you can retro-fit it to existing property.
Unlike the Lutron Grafik Eye, there is no 'central controller' because the system is dispersed around the home.
It consists essentially of two categories of component - transmitters and receivers, communicating using
an encryted digital FM signal. The Berker system has over a billion unique codes thereby ensuring no
interference from other Berker control systems, or other radio systems working at 433.4Mhz.
Mobile phones do not affect the radio system at all, and the electro magnetic radiation to the human
body is 10 times less than a baby monitor
Transmitters
These are either slim 'stick-on' wall mounted or hand held remote controls. When a button is pressed and a signal sent, it will
only be picked up by the designated receiver or receivers, up to 100 metres away. A single button can control
a single device or multiple devices.
Hand held remote control
The hand held remote can control up to 24 separate lighting or blinds circuits
and can store up to 5 mood lighting scenes (with or without screen/blind control). It has a range of 100m.
Keyfob remote control
The keyfob remote control can control just 2 devices, and has a range of 30m.
Wall mounted keypads
The slim 'stick-on' wall mounted keypads all have a range of 100m, and are battery operated. These are available for controlling 1, 2 or 4 separate circuits of lighting or devices.
Each keypad can either control the device directly or it can select scenes or a combination. Up to 5 scenes can be selected
from each wall control. Button graphics are generated using a small computer programme, and inserted behind the button.
In a typical example, you could replace the existing light switches with wall mounted keypads (although there
is no connection made at this point with the original wiring), and use the remote control for scene setting. The slim
'stick-on' keypads mean that you can add any extra wall controls you would like for two way
switching or scene setting. Original wiring at the switch is connected permanently, and the in-line radio dimmer or
switch located elsewhere - see receivers.
All wall mounted controls are available in three main styles:
- Aluminium frame with anthracite buttons
- Gold coloured frame with white buttons
- Glass frame with white buttons
Receivers
Receivers are either dropped into the existing mains circuit, or integrated into the light fittings being controlled.
Each receiver has its own built-in aerial, so that it can be recessed into the ceiling for individual lights or
connected to control a zone or circuit of lights. The receiver is programmed at the time of installation to 'listen' for its
own commands. (DIN rail mounted versions of the in-line dimmers and switches are available upon request.)
Each receiver can store 30 different transmission signals allowing for two way control, group control, area control, or
recall of pre-programmed settings.
Dimmer
This remote universal 315VA radio dimmer works with normal incandescent lights, tungsten halogen lights,
electronic and magnetic low voltage (wire-wound) transformers. It can be taught up to 30 transmission signals, and up to
ten 700VA boosters can be connected to it, giving a total control maximum of 7300 watts on a single circuit.
Switch
This remote switch switches up to 10 amps of lighting or other electrical appliance. Like the dimmer above
it can be taught up to 30 transmission signals.
Fluorescent light dimmer
The remote 1-10V dimmer allows you to control dimmable electronic ballasts for fluorescent lights.
Lamp dimmer
This in-line universal 315VA dimmer is used for dimming table and floor lamps. It works with both normal
incandescent lamps and electronic and magnetic low voltage halogen lamps. Again it can be taught up to 30 transmission signals.
DIN rail versions
The dimmer, switch and fluorescent dimmer are available as DIN rail mounted versions. The dimmer versions are 72mm wide, the switch 36mm wide.
A neutral is required for these units.
Screen switch
The electric motor controller handles loads up to 1000VA, allowing manual operation or control by a transmitter. It can be
used to control home cinema screens, shutters and blinds. As with most other Berker receivers it can be taught to respond to
30 transmission signals.
Booster
This is used to boost the power handling of the dimmer. Rated at 700VA, up to ten boosters can be used
together allowing a maximum of 7300 Watts. As with the dimmers, it works with both normal
incandescent lamps and electronic and magnetic low voltage halogen lamps
