The iPort makes it easy for the entire family to use the Apple iPod™ to enjoy their digital music and digital photo collections
throughout the entire home. The Sonance iPort provides quick docking and
access to the iPod photo, iPod mini, iPod with Click Wheel, iPod touch and iPhone. The included iPort connections wallplate allows the iPort to connect to and play through practically any local
or whole-home audio system. The DC power supply (also included) charges the iPod while it is docked in the iPort*.
Connecting the iPort dock to amplifiers
The Sonance iPort IW21 and IW22 have two settings; the first allows it to be used as a source (fixed line level) input to a multiroom audio system,
or the Keene in-wall stereo amplifier for a single room solution. The second setting allows a variable line level output as a source into a local power amp
such as the Russound R235LS power amp.
When connecting to a power amp, the iPort is connected to an optional stereo line level volume control, eg QED WM21.
The Sonance iPort IW20 has just a fixed line level output using an audio wall outlet. This allows you to connect it to stereo amplifier, AV receiver, etc.
NB: The power supply for the iPort is a 15V 500mA DC plug-top type (eg like a mobile phone charger). If you intend permanently wiring in the power supply
we would suggest using either a 2.1mm DC extension lead or an Apex 2 x DC faceplate module.
Note also the depth of the iPort wall mounted box is 89mm and does not lend itself to an easy installation in solid block or brick walls. If you require
a wall mounted iPod dock for this situation consider the Marantz IS301, which can be surface mounted.
Single room solutions, eg hotel room, bedroom, etc
The iPort IW20 or IW21 lends itself to simple single room solutions for a hotel bedroom or kid's bedroom. Using a
NuVo ZA215 in wall amplifier with the iPod dock provides an easily accessed
local music source with the minimum of complicated wiring or controls. By connecting the iPod dock directly to the rear of the in-wall amplifier, you can create a very neat
solution, whilst still giving the freedom to plug a laptop into the front. Wire the audio output to a pair of in-ceiling speakers (4 or 8 Ohms) to complete the package.
To simplify this process we have produced an In-Wall Connecting Block (part no. CS-IWCB). All you need to do is run a patch lead from the IW20/IW21 to the CS-IWCB; connect in the DC power supply
for the iPort and run a co-ax speaker wire from the connecting block to the powered NuVo ZA215.

With this arrangement you do not require the audio outlet plate, all connections being hidden.
For a similar arrangement offering remote volume control we suggest the Keene in-wall amplifier or
Keene in-wall Digital amplifier. For a wiring
diagram, click here.

NB. The CyberSelect CS-IWCB iPort in-wall connecting block can only be purchased together with an iPort IW20, IW21 or IW22. It is not sold separately.
iPort variations
There are three versions of the in-wall iPort:
- IW20 - Charges iPod/iPod Touch/iPhone when docked. Unbalanced audio output (up to 30 feet) via RJ45 connectors, when docked. Unbalanced audio wall plate included.
Power supply included.
- IW21 - As above with the addition of:
- Built-in preamplifier which allows variable volume control via IR or the iPod’s volume control
- Delivers unbalanced video (iPod video content only, not program metadata) up to 30 feet from iPort. Unbalanced video wall plate and cable included
- IR which allows remote control of most iPod/iPod touch audio functions when in general control mode (Apple Infra-Red remote control not included)
- IW22 - As for IW21 with the addition of:
- Integrated RS-232 control which enables two-way communication (including iPod program metadata) and control of the iPod/iPod Touch via compatible control systems
- Delivers long-distance balanced audio up to 150m (500 feet) from the iPort. Balanced audio wall plate included
- Built-in preamplifier allows variable volume control via IR and RS-232
