Product Description
The Russound D250LS is a 2-channel, 50 watts per channel, high-current power amplifier capable of handling low-impedance loads. It is ideal for larger rooms where you may be driving two or more pairs of speakers and at higher power output than that offered by your chosen multiroom controller amplifier. You can also use it in conjunction with a variable line level system such as an iPort IW21 or IW22 iPod dock, in order to drive single or multiple pairs of speakers.
Features
The Russound D250LS has an autosensing input that activates the amplifier upon detecting an audio signal. This means that the amplifier remains on standby using very little power until it receives the audio input when it switches on at full working level. The D250LS returns to standby mode when the audio signal ceases.
The Russound D250LS also allows a local source (eg computer) to automatically override the speakers in a particular room of a multiroom audio system. This auto-switching can be achieved using high (amplified) or low (line level) inputs, a video signal or a 12V trigger, giving flexibility of how you organise your system. A switching delay is also provided.
The Russound D250 is rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 75 watts per channel into 4 ohms. In bridged mono mode the Russound D250LS is rated at 150 watts of power into a single 8-ohm load, ie mono speaker. All this power is supplied by a high-output digital amplifier. Each amplifier output channel incorporates robust protection circuitry for safety and reliability under extreme circumstances.
This power amplifier provides a constant volume gain, and should be used in conjunction with an audio source from a pre-amp. For example this could be the Russound CAA66 or CAS44multiroom amplifier with the pre-amp switch set to variable pre-amp out. Alternatively, if you have your music stored on your computer, on a Media Center PC, use the NuVo D2120 to amplify it to speaker level. Volume control would be achieved using the built-in volume control of the computer.
AirPlay
This arrangement also works well with Apple AirPort EXpress Base Station, allowing you to stream music from your iPod/iPad directly to the power amp whilst controlling the volume on the iPod/iPad itself. NB. An AppleTV has fixed line level out by TOSlink and so is not compatible with the D250.
If your audio source is at a fixed level, eg Sonance iPort IW20, you will need to use an in-line volume control such as the QED WM21, or select an IW21 or IW22.
One benefit of a high quality specialist power amp like the Russound D250LS is the low level of impedance that it can handle. This means that you can connect multiple pairs of speakers to it, with or without a multi-way speaker switch or wall mounted volume controls for a simple multiroom system. The Russound D250LS handles down to 4 Ohms impedance meaning that you can connect to 2 pairs of speakers without a speaker switch, or up to 5 pairs with an impedance matching switch such as the 5 way QED Transmatch.
The Russound D250LS 2-channel power amplifier has a space-saving low profile design and two units can sit side by side in a standard rack mount shelf. It can also be wall mounted.
